Can I change polarity (phasing) on recorded audio 1 Month, 1 Week ago Karma: 4
Hi all.

I have an isa828 that has a polarity switch for micing top and bottom of snare.
I added some mics for bottom of mnt tom and flr tom to an 003 rack(no polarity switch on 003). Is there a plug or technic to change the polarity on a recorded track? Is there a plug or way to visually see that it's out of phase. Top or bottom alone sound fine, together they sound like someone stuck it in a small shoe box. I guess it's the phasing thing right? Worse to worse I could stick the top mics in the 003 and the bottoms in the isa828 to use phase buttons (if I find I'd like to bottom mic them also) But was wondering if I could do this with PT or a plug. Thank you.

Rich

Not sure if I'm on the right track, but comparing the top and bottom waves you can see the reverse -+. Do you slide so that match. -- ++ or is there something else to it. Gonna slide... I'll be back.

Didn't work. And it throws that and other tracks out.

Digi's Timeadjuster did something, But would that not effect the bleed from other miced drums making them out of phase?

your pro tools should have an AudioSuite plugin called "invert" that will invert the polarity on the selected region.

nudging regions might just make the phasing worse.

depending on how your drums were recorded, inverting the polarity might not make much of a difference. Just go with what you think sounds best.

Also if it sounds better with just the top mic, try taking the bottom mic completely out of the mix. don't feel like you have to use it just because you recorded it.

Thank you, I've been playing with the Time adjuster, I'll try the invert in audiosuite.
And yes just micing the tops are easier, how to eq and fit with other things and bleed and such. Been micing a 5 piece set with 8 mics. Tryed 10 last night....tonite I've got.....16 in....my my my......
